Poetry

I wrote a poem for my granddaughter Sadie Slade who turned age 10 on March 23, 2020.

Sadie Turns Ten

Today Sadie turns ten.
Seems not long that’s been.
She’s brought us loads of grins,
made a ton of friends,
and I’m proud to be her kin.

I wrote a check with pen,
some money—its no lend.
Just a little for her to spend,
maybe buy a toy that spins,
certainly nothing with a VIN.

She’s got a great mother hen
And a dad who anything can mend.
A happy family den
With Skyler and Sibley her siblin’.
Family love no enemy can rend.

I know this poem made you cringe.
Your glad it’s at an end.
Another verse I won’t begin.
I wish you happy crui–sin’
And keep holding up that chin.
